Endorsement Letter for Organizations to Senator
TO BE PUT ON LETTERHEAD
The Honorable SENATORS NAME
### XXX Senate Office Building
Washington, DC 20510
Dear SENATOR’s NAME:
I write this letter to urge you to support the “Bringing Postpartum Depression Out of the Shadow Act of 2015" [S. 2311 ].
Postpartum Depression [PPD] is the #1 complication of pregnancy. PPD can present itself as anxiety, OCD, rage and/or depression. Most pregnant women and new Mom’s are not routinely screened for PPD in the United States. Approximately 400,000 women are affected by postpartum depression each year. An estimated 15%, and maybe as high as 25%, of these women seek and/or receive treatment.
INSERT STATE COALITION RELATED INFO INTO THESE TWO PARAGRAPHS. HERE IS AN EXAMPLE: The National Coalition for Maternal Mental Health [NCMMH] supports S. 2311, “Bringing Postpartum Depression Out of the Shadows Act of 2015”.
NCMMH is comprised of national organizations devoted to addressing maternal mental health. NCMMH’s goal is to engage stakeholders, advocate for change in policies and practices, and raise awareness surrounding maternal mental health. NCMMH works on a daily basis with new mothers, families, health care providers and local communities.
The “Bringing Postpartum Depression Out of the Shadow Act of 2015” HR 3235, addresses stigma surrounding PPD, will provide federal grants to state and local efforts to develop programs to screen and treat postpartum depression.
We ask you, SENATORS NAME, to co-sponsor “Bringing Postpartum Depression Out of the Shadow Act of 2015" [S. 2311] to take action on ridding stigma, and getting the proper resources to women and providers at a state and local level around Postpartum Depression.
